Prior to 2009, the remains of unidentified migrants who died in Imperial County, California were buried here. Today, this section of the cemetery is barred from public access. In fact, visitors cannot even see this area, as the view from the rest of the cemetery is blocked by a chain link fence lined with opaque fabric. "We might think of war as dividing populations into those who are grievable and those who are not" (Butler 2009: 38).
