I build the database for and help administer Wall Watch, a public service journalism and community mapping project launched by The Border Chronicle to document wall construction, buoy barrier installation, and other infrastructure along the U.S.-Mexico border. Wall Watch combines geospatial mapping and community reporting to provide the public with an accurate, continuously updated record of changes occurring along the nearly 2,000 miles of international border. The project allows residents, journalists, researchers, policymakers, and environmental advocates to monitor where new barriers are being built and understand their impacts on border communities, public lands, wildlife habitat, and migration.
The Wall Watch project is coordinated by Melissa del Bosque and the app was built by Matt Crocker, founder of RioPlex Technology in South Texas. Special thanks also to Wall Watch madrina Marianna Treviño Wright and our many collaborators throughout the borderlands who submit reports.
